Matthew T. Woodruff

Class: I College

Parish: St. Cecilia, Philadelphia

What year did you enter the seminary?

2009

What did you do prior to seminary entrance?

I attended Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia.

What influenced your decision to enter the seminary?

Talking to priests I knew and trusted as well as other seminarians.

Why do you want to be a priest?

Because I feel God is calling me to serve Him and His people in a special way.

What did your family and friends think about your decision to enter the seminary?

They were supportive, but a little unsure. They really warmed up to the idea as they learned more about it.

What do you do for fun?

I love to watch movies, hang out with friends/family, root for the Phillies, listen to classic rock and have a good ol’ crazy time.

Who is your favorite Saint?

Saint Paul. I love how God called him despite his past sins, forgave him, and made him one of his greatest professors of the faith.

What advice would you give to a young man thinking about the seminary?

Talk to a priest you trust about it. The more you know about it the better. Plus, pray, pray, and when you’re done praying, pray some more. It will help a lot.
