"Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth—in a word, to know himself—so that,
by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves." - Saint John Paul II, Fides et Ratio
During the summer of 2023, high school juniors and seniors are invited to attend Philadelphia Catholic Scholars Program at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. Participants in this year's program on "Faith & Reason", will ask the fundamental questions about the relationship between faith and reason, and will turn to the great philosophical and theological minds to see how they have south to answer this question.
During this 10-day residential program held at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, the men will live, eat, study, pray, and play together, as a community of Catholic men seeking deeper union with, and knowledge of, Christ in his Church.
Under the guidance of seminary and university professors, students will dig into the works of Plato, Augustine, Boethius, Thomas Aquinas, G.K. Chesterton, and John Paul II. These great thinkers will help the men to understand the role of both faith and reason in the pursuit of truth. We will see that satisfying our hunger for the truth does not require turning off our minds or muting our Catholicism.
