Reflection on Samson
God destined Samson for a particular mission and provided all the strength he needed to fulfill it. Just so, each one of us has a vocation lovingly designed by God, who gives us all the necessary gifts to say yes to our call. In this reflection, Kathia Arango breaks open the story of Samson and guides us in applying it to our own stories. The story of Samson is found in Judges 13-16. We invite you to join Kathia in contemplating it more deeply. Kathia Arango is the Director of the Office for Hispanic Catholics for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
We invite you to prayerfully ponder these reflection questions:
- God has placed a mission on each one of our hearts and provides all the gifts we need to accomplish it. What are the gifts that the Holy Spirit is giving to you? For what mission has God destined you?
- Like Samson, we can let things distract us from fulfilling our mission. What are the distractions that are keeping you from fulfilling your mission?
- “The story of Samson tells us it is never too late to live our vocation, to fulfill the mission we were chosen from birth to accomplish,” shared Kathia Arango. When Samson lost his strength, he cried out to God, who heard him and restored his strength. We too fall, but can always turn to God and trust that he will answer us. In what areas do you need to cry out to God? Do you believe in your heart that He will hear you and respond, as he heard and responded to Samson?
