Father Augustus Tolton, the first recognized black Catholic priest in America, has had his cause for sainthood advanced by Pope Francis, as he was recently elevated to the title of "Venerable." The title of "venerable" recognizes that Tolton lived a life of heroic virtue. If there is a miracle confirmed to have been granted by God through the intercession of Tolton, he will be declared "Blessed." This video tells the unique story of how Fr. Tolton courageously pursued his vocation to the priesthood.
